The Indian Constitution, through Article 20, protects individuals accused of
crimes from certain punishments and procedures. Specifically, it prohibits conviction for
offenses under laws that were not in effect at the time of the offense, prohibits harsher
penalties than those available at the time of the offense, and prevents double jeopardy (being
tried and punished for the same offense more than once).
Article 20, This article provides safeguards against retrospective
punishments, double jeopardy, and self-incrimination, ensuring fairness in the legal process.
Article 21, This article guarantees the right to life and personal
liberty, which is a cornerstone of the legal system and helps prevent arbitrary arrests and
detention.
Article 22, This article outlines the rights of persons arrested,
including the right to be informed of the grounds for arrest, the right to counsel, and the
right to be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours.
Article 24, This article prohibits the employment of children below
the age of 14 in hazardous occupations.
Article 25, This article guarantees freedom of religion, which is
important for maintaining social harmony and preventing crimes motivated by religious
intolerance.
NGOs play a crucial role in preventing crime by advocating for policy
changes, raising public awareness, supporting victims and offenders, and providing essential
services in the criminal justice system. NHRCCB is dedicated civil society Organization to
prevent crime.
NHRCCB Crime Control Cell aims to promote crime prevention/control
and other related activities related to education across the nation in support of NHRCCB
Volunteer/ Member/ Officer.
For the implementation different laws related to crime prevention/control as
per Indian Constitution, NHRCCB established a separate Constituent unit or cell named “
NHRCCB Crime Control Cell ” with independent managing committee.
